Bentley was founded in 1919 by Walter Owen Bentley, known as W.O. Bentley or "Woolf" to his friends. He was an engineer with a passion for fast cars and racing. His first car, the 3 Litre, was released in 1919 and was very successful. In 1931, Bentley was sold to Rolls-Royce. After a few years, Rolls-Royce went bankrupt and Bentley was sold again, this time to Vickers plc. In 1998, Vickers sold Bentley to the Volkswagen Group.
