The Ford Tempo and its sister car the Mercury Topaz were introduced for the 1984 model year. The Tempo replaced the Ford Fairmont and was eventually replaced by the Ford Contour.
-The Tempo was available with a turbo engine that produced up to 200 horsepower! -It was one of the first cars to offer front-wheel drive. -It was available in both sedan and coupe body styles.
Did you know that the Tempo was actually based on an earlier German car? The Ford Sierra, which was introduced in 1982, was originally going to be sold in the United States as the Tempo. However, the car was not well received in Europe and was not a success. So, Ford decided to base the American Tempo on a different car, the Escort.
